Let’s be honest here, 2020 has not been an easy year. Everyone has dealt with some kind of struggle.
Mental health is a serious topic and is something that everyone struggles with whether they believe it or not. Keeping your mental health in check is not an easy thing to do. During this time we need to take care of our mental health more than ever.
It’s ok to do nothing
If you’ve been feeling unmotivated and sad lately, you are not alone and it is ok to feel those feelings. Infact even if there wasn’t a global pandemic it would still be ok to feel that way.
Getting out of bed, or even just doing the smallest tasks can be impossible to do. It’s the little things to take in account that matters. If you drank water today, that’s amazing, if you just got out of bed and made it, that phenomenal. You have to give yourself a little more credit in life.
Society is hard
I feel that these days us humans are too hard on ourselves because of the society that we live in. Social media plays a huge role in this because it makes you think that everything is sunshine and rainbows or that everyone’s life is perfect. That is simply not the case.
There are very few people on social media who share the hard parts of life. Always remember the person you may look up to has the same struggles as you do, so never compare yourself to others. Showing your true self and struggles is beneficial to you because you’re being real and 90% of the time your audience or followers are struggling too, but you are helping them by sharing your struggles with them.
A lot of mental health issues stem from within as well from outsiders. Not loving ourselves enough, thinking we are not worthy of certain things.. or anything, thinking that just because our body shape isn’t the same as an instagram model that we are not beautiful.
Some people would say you are crazy for thinking that but it’s easier said than done. There are little things we can do everyday to help us love ourselves more and improve our mental health.
Getting outside
Taking a walk outside really frees your thoughts. Realizing the beauty around you and being grateful is important. Wear a mask of course to not only protect yourself, but others too. You never know who can be affected by COVID.
Take a Self Care day
Self care is so so important. If you don’t invest in yourself, you can’t provide wealth to others or even yourself. Take a shower, make your favorite meal or drink, and take a day to slow down in life. Doing more of what you love in life gives you life and purpose. Always put yourself first and NEVER feel bad about it.
Cut out Things in Life that Make you Feel Bad
No one likes to feel bad, that’s obvious. So why keep doing the things that do make you feel bad? I know sometimes cutting out certain things can be hard, once you find the courage you’ll be limitless!
I would recommend making a list of the things you love in life and the things you don’t like in life. The really cool thing about life is if you don’t like something you can change it, if you can’t change it right away you can learn to make the most out of the situation.
It’s easier said than done though. That’s why you should start small and reward yourself for your accomplishments.
Journaling
Journaling your thoughts is a great way to relieve some stress, or screaming works too.. Anyways, it is not healthy to let all your thoughts build up in your head until it explodes. Whenever you are feeling stressed put it on paper. Journaling can help you be at ease with certain situations or it makes you see what you don’t like and then you can think and brainstorm how to go about a certain problem or situation.
Coloring, painting or doing any fun activity you love can really take away a lot of stress or distract your mind from something you cannot control at the moment.
Be kind to yourself
Every single day you should be talking kindly to yourself. If you say bad things about yourself you believe it. If you talk good things about yourself then you are to believe it. So which do you choose? Self love and confidence takes time and is a journey. You can decide to delay the journey or get going!
Talk to loved ones
As it is really hard to see some family or friends at this time, try to call or facetime them often. Their mental health could be taking a toll too. A lot of us have already had problems in our lives and the COVID came and added another huge one on top of our other problems. Life is really just a pile of problems, but how you react to these problems really determines how you enjoy life or how you can make the most out of it.
People are suffering and struggling in different ways so always be kind and have a laugh with friends and family. Maybe even try random acts of kindness.
Take on a New Hobby
Since this year has already been crazy, why not make it carizer and try something new! If you have always wanted to do something in life or even start a new career, do it! The possibilities are endless. Who knows, you could become the world’s greatest cook, you’ll never know until you try.
Another cool thing is if you don’t end up liking it, you don’t have to do it. Trial and error is the only way to grow and know what you want out of life.
Point Blank
Mental health is a real struggle and is really not taken lightly, if you are in need of some help further from these tips, I will list some resources to help you further. Never be ashamed for asking for help and always put yourself first, you are loved and worthy and things will get better, so stay strong.
