Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are all filled with joy and yummy delicious food and sometimes you don’t have control over how much and what you eat during the holidays. I look left and right and there is pie, cookies, and anything and everything around me. I won’t lie last week I ate a whole pumpkin pie by myself in a span of three days. This week I bought another one and it’s already almost gone… Do I feel guilty about it? Not really LOL. I know it’s way more pie than I need in my diet but when I crave sweets or certain food I have it so I’m less likely to binge later in the day.
The reason why I don’t feel that bad about my pie eating is because this is the only time of year I eat pie, and I don’t feel guilty because of consistently working out and eat good for most of the day. I’ll share some tips so you don’t have to feel guilty during the holidays and you can eat what you want when you want and truly enjoy your time.
Exercise
Let’s get the most obvious one out of the way. Exercise! Getting your body moving during the holidays is the best way to enjoy treats, food, etc without feeling bad. You worked hard for the treat and deserve to feed your cravings. A lot of people neglect exercise this time of year, eat tons of treats and food and then start working out as their New Years resolution. If you wanna do that that’s cool too but why not start building habits now so you can go into the new year strong while you still ate good food and enjoyed it.
Food
The 80/20 is a good rule of thumb to follow pretty much all the time. It is where you eat whole and nutritious foods for 80% of the time and the other 20% feeding your cravings! This helps you not go overboard with sweets and cravings, but also helps you feed your favorite desired holiday treats. If you go a little over board that is ok too. You can also maybe workout one extra day a week or do one extra cardio sesh if you really wanna go ham and eat the foods you want. Don’t punish yourself for eating and try to over train. It will do you no good and will make you feel worse than if you were to over eat. Also if it is hard for you eat around the holidays or in general that is ok too. No one is judging and take food one step at a time, you got this!
Drink yo water
WATERRRR is so important all the time but especially during winter and the holidays. You can be very busy working, running around and hanging out with friends and family and forget to drink your water! It is also very dry this time of year! If you drink your water you will have more energy and won’t crave treats and such as easily because it will make you feel more full. Not to mention water is good all around for you and don’t neglect it because of the busy season!
Do fun activities!
Instead of chillin inside where you are around food and may become bored and start to eat because you are bored, try and do some fun activities this holiday season! You could draw, paint, make Christmas doodles, go ice skating, sledding, hang out with a friend or loved one, make homemade Christmas gifts. The list is endless! There are so many fun things to do besides sitting inside on your phone and eating because you’re bored. Enjoy the present moment and have fun! Also watch Christmas movies if you’d like, I know that’s an inside activity around food, but that is a must!
You deserve to have fun and not feel guilty…
Overall if you go overboard this holiday season don’t feel guilty. Your journey is all a learning process, as long as you are happy and are having fun that’s all that matters. Enjoy the holiday season and be kind to people! The holidays for some can be triggering and not enjoyable. Spread kindness, give compliments, and be patient with people. Happy Holidays!
